Flight Phase

Information about Flight Phase Curriculum:
  • Children in Flight Phase learn through cross curricular themed topics taught mainly by their class teacher. Our Curriculum Drivers; Well-being, Our World, Futures and Standards are at the fore-front of all learning, to ensure that children get the most out of their time in school. Visits and visitors enrich the learning and provide experiences and inspiration. Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers.
  • Reading, writing and maths are taught discreetly and through other curriculum areas to help reinforce core skills.
  • Children in Flight Phase have opportunities to compete in sporting activities including Sports Day at school in Year Two, and at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in years three and four. There are also opportunities to perform in musical productions. Year two take part in the Christmas show and years three and four put on an annual Spring Production.
  • All children in Flight Phase learn to play musical instruments. In year three they learn to play the Recorder and then progress to a stringed instrument (Ukulele) in year four.
  • Modern Foreign Languages are a statutory part of the curriculum in KS2. Children in years three and four learn French.
  • Standard Assessment Tasks (SATS) take place in year two during the Summer Term, as do re-sits of the Statutory Year One Phonics Test.
