Lift Off Phase

‘Little People, Big Minds, Big Hearts, Big Dreams’
Lift Off Phase at Keys Meadow provides excellence in early education, based on an exciting,
challenging, experiential curriculum with the child at the centre.
Children will develop; language, thinking and imagination, master basic skills and concepts, learn to care for themselves and those around them, and believe in themselves and feel motivated to continually strive to achieve.
The Lift Off Phase Curriculum
  • Lift off Phase at Keys Meadow includes Nursery, Reception and Year One. Children in the Early Years are taught using the Foundation Stage Curriculum which promotes the importance of children learning through planned, purposeful play opportunities which help to develop curious, confident children. The curriculum is delivered across the indoor and outdoor environments and children have opportunities to learn out of doors every day. In Year 1 the National Curriculum is used to plan exciting cross curricular opportunities for children to learn through meaningful activities.
  • During their time in Lift Off Phase we plan opportunities to extend children’s joy and fascination in the world around them and develop their concentration, commitment to and deep involvement in their learning. We want children to be confident to try new things and to begin to see mistakes as part of improvement.
  • At Keys Meadow Primary great importance is placed on children developing their self-confidence and positive learning behaviours. In Lift Off phase children begin our school ‘I Can’ programme.
  • The school curriculum drivers; Futures, Our World, Standards and Well-being form the foundation of all our planning.
  • Throughout Lift Off Phase we deliver systematic teaching of letter sounds through daily phonic sessions based upon the Letters and Sounds Phonics Programme.
  • Maths is taught using a structured programme, Maths Make Sense. It is introduced to children in Reception who take part in daily Maths sessions where the consistent mathematical language and actions are taught.
  • Visits and visitors enrich the learning and provide real experiences and inspiration for the children. Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers. Children in Lift Off Phase have opportunities to participate in sporting activities in school and are encouraged to build confidence to perform in front of others. This starts with our very youngest children.
  • Statutory assessment takes place at the end of Reception with the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. The statutory Phonics Screening check is administered in the summer term of Year One, results of both assessments are reported to parents as part of the Annual Report.
