Soar Phase

“Refuse to be average. Let your heart soar as high as it will.”
(Aiden Wilson Tozer)

We are destined to soar to sublime heights; we are made for freedom and laughter and goodness….(Archbishop Desmond Tutu) Soar Phase aims to provide the children with opportunities to become independent, organised and responsible learners. Children are encouraged to work collaboratively with their peers and begin to enhance their skills as lead learners and role models, exploring their own ideas, solving problems and linking their learning to their role in the real world. Thus providing soar children with the essential skills needed for a smooth transition to secondary school and the future.

The Soar Phase Curriculum
  • Children in Soar Phase (Years 5 & 6) learn through cross curricular themed topics. Our Curriculum Drivers; Futures, Our World, Standards and Well-Being are at the core of our curriculum and these ensure children get the most out of their time in school. The curriculum is tailored specifically to the children’s needs. Visits and visitors enrich the learning and provide real experiences and inspiration. Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers.
  • Maths, Reading and Writing are taught and organised through cross curriculum topics bringing together concepts and skills from different curriculum areas.
  • All children in Soar Phase have opportunities to compete in sporting activities including Sports Day at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre as well as after school football and netball clubs.  Children in Year 6 children have the opportunity to represent the school by joining the school football and netball team and by competing in the borough district sports once a year.
  • All Soar Phase children participate in an end of year production based on a musical, Shakespearean play or curriculum themes where children experience all aspects of producing and performing a play. They perform this in an environment out of our school similar to a real life theatre.
  • Children in Year 5 learn to play the ukulele. In Year 5 and 6 they have the opportunity to join in with musical concerts and continue to participate in extra curricular musical clubs such as choir.
  • Modern Foreign Languages are a statutory part of the curriculum in KS2. Children in Soar Phase learn French.
  • Standard Assessment Tasks (SATS) take place in Year 6 during the Summer Term.
